Ah Jeez! School Will Be Out Come June 5th And I'm Already Planning My Escape Route! I Honestly Don't Know If I Can Handle Another Summer Like Last Year's! It Was Awful!! My Daughter Leaves For A Mission Trip To Mexico (Of All Days) On June 28th Which Is Her Birthday And She'll Only Be Gone A Week But With 3 Rambunctious (sp?) Boy's To Deal With Without Her Help And Dad Working Overtime (Yea, Right!!!) I Don't Even Want To Think About How I'm Gonna Keep Them From Driving Me To The Looney Bin (Literally) lol Speaking Of Summer, It's Not Even June Yet And I've Seen 3 Snakes Slithering Around In My Back Yard In Just The Last Week!!! So The Kids Will Have To Stay In The Front Yard And Play In The 110 Degree Heat Where I Can See Them.(Maybe I Can Work On My Tan Without Frying To A Crisp) Hubby Suggested Taking Them To The Beach But If It Ain't The Snakes, It's Sharks! And I'm Scared To Death Of Both! So, Calgon,... Where The Hell Are You? Anybody Else Got Any Idea's? I'm Open To Almost Anything At This Point...lol

Something To Think About - Bee Stings

BEE STINGS

This information may be something to remember, as this season will soon be here again..It might be wise to carry a penny in your pocket while working in the yard.......... BEE STINGS !A couple of weeks ago, I was stung by both a bee and hornet while working in the garden.My arm swelled up, so I went to the doctor. The clinic gave me cream and an antihistamine. The next day the swelling was getting progressively worse,so I went to my regular doctor. The arm was Infected and needed an antibiotic. The doctor told me - ' The next time you get stung, put a penny on the bite for 15 minutes'.That night, my niece was stung by two bees. I looked at the bite and it had already started to swell. So, I taped a penny to her arm for 15 minutes. The next morning, there was no sign of a bite. We decided that she just wasn't allergic to the sting.Soon, I was gardening outside. I got stung again, twice by a hornet on my left hand. I thought, here I go again to the doctor for another antibiotic.I promptly got my money out and taped two pennies to my bites, then sat and sulked for 15 minutes. The penny took the string out of the bite immediately.In the meantime the hornets were attacking, and my friend was stung on the thumb. Again the penny. The next morning I could only see the spot where the hornet had stung me. No redness, no swelling. My friend's sting was the same; couldn't even tell where she had been stung. She got stung again a few days later upon her back---cutting the grass! And the penny worked once again. Wanted to share this marvelous information in case you experience the same problem. We need to keep a stock of pennies on hand.The doctor said that the copper in the penny counteracts the bite. It definitely works!Please remember and pass this information on to your friends,children, grandchildren, etc.

My Gardenia's

I Have 3 Full Grown, Beautiful Gardenia Bushes Growing Strong. I Had 12 Originally But Due To Hurricane Katrina And Ivan, I Lost 9 Of Them. I Want To Make A Hedge In My Front Yard Because I Can't Put Up A White Picket Fence So Because I Like Gardenia's So Much, I Thought I Would Try To Make Like A Fence Of Gardenia Bushes. They Are So Pretty And Smell Absolutely Intoxicating. My Problem Is That I Would Like To Try And Get Some Started From A Few Clippings Of The Bushes I Have Instead Of Going Out And Buying More. I'm Not Sure Exactly How To Do That But I'm Gonna Give It A Whirl And See What Happens. If Anybody Has Any Ideas On How To Do This Successfully, Give Me A Shout. lol Here's A Picture I Took This Morning Of The Smallest Bush I Have. The Other Two Have Buds Ready To Blossom Any Day Now And I Can't Wait! I Just Hope That I Can Get Some More Going.

Memorial Day Burgers

Memorial Day signals the official start of backyard barbecues. If you’ve got to splurge on a burger, make it a healthy one, like this Southwestern Burger. The lean protein satisfies and the salsa adds fiber. After all, bikini season is just around the corner!

SOUTHWESTERN BURGER

Serves 4
INGREDIENTS:

Vegetable oil cooking spray

1 lb ground sirloin

1/2 red bell pepper, cored, seeded and grated

1 egg white

1 tsp salt1/2 tsp hot sauce

1/2 cup fresh corn kernels

1 cup diced tomato

2 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro

1 tbsp fresh lime juice

4 whole-wheat burger buns

PREPARATION:

Coat grill with cooking spray; heat on high. Mix sirloin, bell pepper, egg white, 1/2 tsp of the salt and hot sauce in a bowl. Form into four 4-inch patties. Set aside. Cook corn with 1 tbsp water in microwave 30 seconds; mix with tomato, cilantro, juice and remaining 1/2 tsp salt in another bowl. Grill burgers 12 minutes, turning halfway through, until no longer red in the center. Place on buns and top with salsa.

JUST A MOM?

A woman, renewing her driver's license at the County Clerk 's office,was asked by the woman recorder to state her occupation.She hesitated, uncertain how to classify herself.

'What I mean is, ' explained the recorder, 'do you have a job or are you just a ...?''Of course I have a job,' snapped the woman.'I'm a Mom.

''We don't list 'Mom' as an occupation,'housewife' covers it,'Said the recorder emphatically.

I forgot all about her story until one day I found myselfin the same situation, this time at our own Town Hall. The Clerk was obviously a career woman, poised,efficient, and possessed of a high sounding title like,'Official Interrogator' or 'Town Registrar.''What is your occupation?' she probed.

What made me say it? I do not know. The words simply popped out.

'I'm a Research Associate in the field of Child Development and Human Relations.

'The clerk paused, ball-point pen frozen in midair and looked up as though she had not heard right. I repeated the title slowly emphasizing the most significant words..Then I stared with wonder as my pronouncement was written,in bold, black ink on the official questionnaire.'Might I ask,' said the clerk with new interest,'just what you do in your field?

'Coolly, without any trace of fluster in my voice,I heard myself reply,'I have a continuing program of research,(what mother doesn't)

In the laboratory and in the field,(normally I would have said indoors and out). I'm working for my Masters, (first the Lord and then the whole family)and already have four credits (1 Girl & 3 Boys). Of course, the job is one of the most demanding in the humanities,(any mother care to disagree?)

and I often work 14 hours a day, (24 is more like it). But the job is more challenging than most run-of-the-mill careers and the rewards are more of a satisfaction rather than just money.'There was an increasing note of respect in the clerk's voice as shecompleted the form, stood up, and personally ushered me to the door.As I drove into our driveway, buoyed up by my glamorous new career,I was greeted by my lab assistants -- ages 14, 11, and 8. Upstairs I could hear our new experimental model,(My 4 Year Old) in the child development program,testing out a new vocal pattern. I felt I had scored a beat on bureaucracy! And I had gone on the official records as someone more distinguished and indispensable to mankind than 'just another Mom.' Motherhood! What a glorious career! Especially when there's a title on the door.

Does this make grandmothers 'Senior Research associates in the field of Child Development and Human Relations'And great grandmothers 'Executive Senior Research Associates?' I think so!!! I also think it makes Aunts 'Associate Research Assistants.'

Is It Friday Yet???

Here I Am Again! Falling Way Behind On A Lot Of Stuff And Wondering If It's Friday Yet. lol I Have Got Sooo Much Stuff To Do And I'm Sure That I Forgetting A Lot As Well As Missed A Lot. For The House, I've Got 3 Loads Of Laundry To Do, Mopping The Kitchen Floor, Shampooing The Carpet (has to be done) And I've Got To Start Tending My Garden Or I'm Gonna Lose Everything. I Have Got To Go To The Grocery Store And It's Gonna Rain All Day Here, Pay Some Bills (in the rain), Help My Son With His Science Project Tonight Because It's Due Tommorow, (daddy is all thumbs ) And I've Got 2 Important Exams To Get Through Just In One Class And 1 Of Those Exams Have To Be Taken Immediately (today) Or I Won't Get My Credit And I Reallly, Really Need All I Can Get. I Have An Eye Dr's Appointment Tommorow And I'll Be Pretty Much Screwed As Far As Doing Anything That Requires Me To See (I Guess I'm Kinda Talented Because I Can Pee In The Dark...lol) Because He'll Be Dilating My Eyes And My Son's Sience Fair Is Tommorow Night (good thing i have a camera cause i probably won't be able to see it). I Hate It When Everything Just Seems To Hit Me All At Once And I Feel Like A Caged Animal That Scratches And Claws To Get Out Of The Chaos Of Doing Lots And Lots Of Everyday Activities In A Span Of 2 Days. There are two versions of the Orange Blossom according to The Old Waldorf-Astoria Bar Book, one neat and one on the rocks. In the 1935 book A.S. Crockett says that the Orange Blossom No. 1 (neat) was likely created by "some young bridegroom or other who wanted something novel to use at his final stag party." His recipe for the Orange Blossom No. 2 is built in a "bar glass," for this you'll want to use an old-fashioned glass filled with ice. It also calls for 1:1 gin and orange juice so you want to keep the glass small or go with a little more juice to keep the alcohol content manageable.

INGREDIENTS:
3/4 oz gin
3/4 oz sweet vermouth
3/4 oz orange juice
PREPARATION:
Pour the ingredients into a mixing glass with ice cubes.
Stir well.
Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

Orange Blossom No. 2 (or Adirondack)
2 oz gin
2 oz orange juice
Pour the gin into an old-fashioned glass filled with ice.
Top with orange juice.

Pink, Chic And Back!

The Cosmopolitan: Pink, Chic and Back

As much as you may love it or hate it...The Cosmopolitan is back! Why you ask? Sex and the City is back. The new movie is released nationwide at the end of May but the fever has already hit and with

that there is a lot more talk of the Cosmopolitan. There's a Sex and the City tour in New York which takes guests to movie locations, including the bars where the drink of choice is almost obvious. In the movie (which has already premiered) the girls ask themselves why they stopped drinking it (according to Linda Barnard of the Toronto Star) and there has been a few more pink drinks passed across the bars. Bartenders and party hosts should be prepared to make a lot of these over the summer; it will be the drink on many minds, even if it is subliminal.

Where has the Cosmo been? It's been around and it is still many people's tipple of choice but I think the majority got bored with it; maybe it was kind of a gateway "Martini". The attention the drink once received has diminished because there are a lot of Cosmopolitan-like cocktails that are fun to explore and an increasing interest in the classic and non-vodka cocktails. The Cosmo itself has inspired many of these drinks, including the Rosy Rum Cosmo, Campari Cosmo, Crantini and Maya Magic. So stock up on the vodka, cranberry, Cointreau and limes because this season may be a very pink.

Five Fabulous New Additions

Our Cat Angel Gave Birth T0 4 Healthy Kitties A Couple Of

Weeks Ago And They Are Starting To Get Around A Little More. This Morning I Went Out To Get The Morning Paper And As I Was Just Watching Mom Coddle Her 4 Kitties When Out Came A White Kitten. We Thought Angel Had Only 4 Kittens And That's All We Have Seen Until I Spotted The White One This Morning, But Mama And All 5 Kittens Are Doing Well. They Are Sooooo Cute And Mama Cat Is Very Caring And Very Attentive To Her Babies, Not To Mention That She's Always Been Spoiled And Now That She Knows They Are Getting Out And About, Being Held And Touched By Those Who Love Them Every Bit As Much As She Does, She Enjoy's A Very Well Deserved Break To Just Have Some Mom Time.

BEING A MOTHER...
After 17 years of marriage, my wife wanted me to Take another woman out to dinner and a movie. She Said, 'I love you, but I know this other woman loves You and would love to spend some time with you.'* * *The other woman that my wife wanted me to visitWas my MOTHER, who has been alone for 20 years,But the demands of my work and my two boys had Made it possible to visit her only occasionally.* * *That night I called to invite her to go out for Dinner and a movie.* * *'What's wrong, aren't you well,' she asked?* * *My mother is the type of woman who suspects that a Late night call or a surprise invitation is a sign Of bad news.* * *'I thought it would be pleasant to spend some Time with you,' I responded. 'Just the two of us.'She thought about it for a moment, and then said,'I would like that very much.'* * *That Friday after work, as I drove over to pick Her up I was a bit nervous. When I arrived at her House, I noticed that she, too, seemed to be nervous About our date. She waited in the door. She had curled her hair and was wearing the Dress that she had worn to celebrate her last Birthday on November 19th.* * *She smiled from a face that was as radiant as an Angel's'. 'I told my friends that I was going to goOut with my son, and they were impressed,' she said,As she got into that new white van. Invisible Mom's

It all began to make sense, the blank stares, the lack of response, the Way one of the kids will walk into the room while I'm on the phone and Ask to be taken to the store. Inside I'm thinking, 'Can't you see I'm on The phone?' Obviously not; no one can see if I'm on the phone, or Cooking, or sweeping the floor, or even standing on my head in the Corner, because no one can see me at all. I'm invisible; 'The Invisible Mom.' Some days I am only a pair of hands, nothing more: Can you fix this? Can You tie this? Can you open this? Some days I'm not a pair of hands; I'm not even a human being. I'm a Clock to ask, 'What time is it?' I'm a satellite guide to answer, 'What Number is the Disney Channel?' I'm a car to order, 'Right around 5:30, Please.' I was certain that these were the hands that once held books and the Eyes that studied history and the mind that graduated Summa cum laude - But now they had disappeared into the peanut butter, never to be seen Again. She's going, she's going, and she's gone! One night, a group of us were having dinner, celebrating the return of a Friend from England . I was feeling pretty pathetic, when Janice turned to me with a beautifully wrapped package, and said, 'I Brought you this.' It was a book on the great cathedrals of Europe . I Wasn't exactly sure why she'd given it to me until I read her Inscription: 'To Charlotte , with admiration for the greatness of what You are building when no one sees.' In the days ahead I would read - no, devour - the book. And I would Discover what would become for me, four life-changing truths, after Which I could pattern my work: No one can say who built the great Cathedrals - we have no record of their names. These builders gave their Whole lives for a work they would never see finished. They made great Sacrifices and expected no credit. The passion of their building was Fueled by their faith that the eyes of God saw everything. A legendary story in the book told of a rich man who came to visit the Cathedral while it was being built, and he saw a workman carving a tiny Bird on the inside of a beam. He was puzzled and asked the man, 'Why are You spending so much time carving that bird into a beam that will be Covered by the roof? No one will ever see it.' And the workman replied, 'Because God sees.' I closed the book, feeling the missing piece fall into place. It was Almost as if I heard God whispering to me, 'I see you, Charlotte. I see The sacrifices you make every day, even when no one around you does. No Act of kindness you've done, no sequin you've sewn on, no cupcake you've Baked, is too small for me to notice and smile over. You are building a great cathedral, but you can't see right now what it Will become.' At times, my invisibility feels like an affliction. But it is not a Disease that is erasing my life. It is the cure for the disease of my Own self-centeredness. It is the antidote to my strong, stubborn pride.. I keep the right perspective when I see myself as a great builder.. As One of the people who show up at a job that they will never see Finished, to work on something that their name will never be on. The Writer of the book went so far as to say that no cathedrals could ever Be built in our lifetime because there are so few people willing to Sacrifice to that degree. When I really think about it, I don't want my son to tell the friend he's bringing home from college for Thanksgiving, 'My Mom gets up at 4 In the morning and bakes homemade pies, and then she hand bastes a Turkey for three hours and presses all the linens for the table.' That Would mean I'd built a shrine or a monument to myself. I just want him to want to come home. And then, if there is anything More to say to his friend, to add, 'you're gonna love it there.' As mothers, we are building great cathedrals. We cannot be seen if we're doing it right. And one day, it is very possible that the world will marvel, not only at what we have built, but at the beauty that has been added to the world by the sacrifices of invisible women.

The Out Of Towner's

My Aunt And Uncle Came To Visit This Weekend And We All Had A Blast! We Took Them To The Beach Saturday And Sunday We All Made Homemade Chocolate Ice Cream And That Was The Best Ice Cream I Have Ever Eaten! This Is The First Vacation They Have Been Able To Take Together In The Last 15 Years And They Wanted To Come Walk On The Sand Of A Florida Beach. They Loved It Here And I Loved Having Them Here! I Haven't Been Able To See Them Since My Daughter Was About 6 Months Old And She Is Now 14, So It's Been A Long Time And I Can't Wait To Have Them Down Again Hopefully Next Summer.
